Why use Olive Oil Soap???
Oil based soaps are natural, biodegradable and healing for the skin. Olive oil has healing qualities and is moisturising. Most soap we buy in the supermarket, both solid and liquid, contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES). It is relatived to Sodium Laurly Sulfate (SLS). This can cause skin irritation and others irritations. SLES and SLS are used to give foam and a sleek feel to hair. These chemicals are also found in toothpaste and shampoo.
The Castile Soap a natural cold process used to make soap. It is moisturising and gentle on the skin. The process invovles a chemical reaction called saponification. This is where the the oil and lye water (water and sodium hydroxide) combine to make soap. Sodium hydroxide is also known as Caustic Soda. Yes the stuff that is used in cleaning etc.
Some may wonder how sodium hydroxide can be better for use than SLES or SLS. It's simple the chemical reaction between to oil and the lye reduces to a neutral pH over the curing period (4-6 weeks) to leave the soap totally safe to use.
The biodegradable nature of this soap also means you are making little impact on our environment.
So what are you waiting for? Try some Castile style soap now!
