AVAILABLE NOW!!! Hand made Castile Soap. A natural soap made from oils such as olive, macadamia, coconut and avocado mixed with lye to create the perfect soap! Castile soap is named for it's origins in the Castile region of Spain. This soap is natural, made from vegetable oils and lye water. It is cured for between 4-6 weeks to produce the perfect PH for use on skin. Lye is a solution of water and sodium hydroxide (caustic soda). This is required to make the chemical reaction of saponification to occur. Without lye a soap cannot claim to be natural. Some products refer to the use of saponified olive or other oils. This just means that lye has been added to the oil. The process of making Castile soap is called a cold process, as the ingredients are not heated to high temperatures to make them into soap. Hot process soaps are described as 'melt and pour' soaps, where the ingredients come in block and melted together then cooled. Castile soap is made exclusively from vegetable oil rather than animal fat or synthetic substances. Pure Castile soap uses only olive oil. The simple recipe means a lesser enviromental impact due to reduced waste and faster biodegradability. While castile soaps can have additional synthetic ingredients, ours use pure oils - oilve, avocado, macadamia, coconut and jojoba. The ingredients for each of our soaps is listed below.
